2/7/2013 3:04:00 PM Clarkdale Town Council adopts new Sign Code
The Clarkdale Town Council adopted a new Sign Code at their January 22, 2013 meeting. The new code replaces Chapter Seven of the Town's Zoning Code and has been streamlined and reorganized for ease of use. In addition, several changes to the Code have been made to support local businesses, including allowing portable, 'A-frame' signs in commercial zoning districts. Portable signs are subject to approval by the Design Review Board.
Maximum signage for commercial developments will now be based on a cumulative total square footage related to linear street frontage. Previously, sign maximums were assigned for each type of sign; for example, 32-square feet was the maximum for a freestanding monument signs. The new code allows a commercial development more discretion on how to design an overall sign package.
Changes to the code were recommended to the Town Council by the Design Review Board. The Board also included language in the new code to guide development of aesthetically pleasing and well maintained signs. The changes to the Sign Code encourage economic development while maintaining the Clarkdale small town character.
The new code becomes effective Feb. 21. Any existing previously approved signage that does not comply with the new code is determined to be legal, non-conforming, per Section 1-6 of the Town Zoning Code and will not have to be modified to meet the new regulations.
Questions regarding the new regulations may be directed to the Community Development Department at (928) 639-2500.
