Fish Story
More than 50 people tried their skill in the American Legion Post 93's 31st annual Catfish Contest over the Memorial Day weekend in Camp Verde, but three buddies fishing together blew the competition out of the water. Ian Kelley easily took first place with a 27.5-pound catfish. Travis Van Ellis was second with 19.6 pounds, and Ryan Emory was third with 16.3 pounds. The three said they fished the same hole for the large fish. Competitors were limited to the Verde River and tributaries. Money raised by the event goes to Legion programs. Courtesy photos

Clarkdale dog wins Purina Outstanding Derby Retriever Award
ST. LOUIS -- The 2013 Purina Outstanding Derby Dog is Kirkwood's Ace of Lone Star ("Lexie"), owned by Casey Adams of Clarkdale, Ariz. Lexie was among the nation's top-performing field trial retrievers recognized at the Purina Outstanding Retriever Awards in Ellinger, Texas, in April.
