1916: Electricity Shocks 2 and Electrocutes 2, June 30.
When a steel tape came in contact with a transmission line, Sam Fox and Clyde Hoyt were shocked and Fred Lust was electrocuted. Gus Voge was electrocuted when he was adjusting wires.

1950: COTTONWOOD; Fireworks Again on July 4.
For the first time since before World War II, a display of fireworks will be staged in the valley. Many children have never seen them.

1923: JEROME; Time to Celebrate on July 4.
From the national standpoint, the United States was never more great or more prosperous, and it is the general feeling that the time for an old-fashioned celebration of the great national holiday has come.

1880, 1881: Celebrations Planned for July 4 and 5.
1880: A celebration with fireworks will be at the home of R. B. Steadman on the Lower Verde. 1881: The usual celebration will be hosted by Greenwood Z. Clem.

1931: United Verde Extension, July 3.
A full face of ore was struck at the Haynes crosscut, which contains gold. Hot salt caused a fire at the loading pit of the Arizona Chemical Company at Clemenceau.

1909: JEROME; Little Daisy Mine, June.
Excitement prevails at Jerome as the result of uncovering rich ore. The future of the Little Daisy is all, and even more, than had been anticipated.

The United Verde hospital in Jerome will close July 1, except for a clinic.

The mine and smelter will close July 1 for 90 days. Promising ground has been encountered in a drift towards the old Haines mine shaft.

1960: Cottonwood Little Daisy Mine, June, July.
Becchetti Copper Corporation holdings have been taken over by MacCourt, Inc., who plan an open pit mining operation on Mingus Mountain. A 500 ton copper ore processing mill is planned for the old Clemenceau smelter site.

There were 4 girls playing on a sand island in the Verde River near Tapco when the water began to rise. A wall of water nearly swept all of them away.

1863-1873: Arizona Territory; ED. G. PECK, Part 2.
The name "Peck's Lake" is a lasting reminder of Ed. G. Peck and his adventures in the Verde Valley. He was a guide at Camp Lincoln. Later, he was involved in the mines.

1919: CHERRY CREEK; Mockingbird Mine, June
The Mockingbird gold mine has been consolidated with the Conger 2 and a group of 7 other mines by the incorporation of the Verde Mines & Milling Company.

1930: CAMP VERDE: Discovery at the Sodium Deposit, June 21.
Miners uncovered a well-preserved headband woven of human hair. A small piece of bamboo shaped and cut in the form of a whistle has also been found.

1899: JEROME; Fire at the United Verde Copper Co., June 24.
Wild excitement has filled the town since the fire began. The company shut off the water supply leaving 5,000 people without water. People are fighting for water.

1910: Verde Valley Fruit Growers' Association, June.
This new association represents the owners of over 20,000 fruit bearing trees and the most extensive vineyard in northern Arizona Territory. No section in the Southwest has become as famously known as the Verde Valley in its fruit bearing capabilities.

In addition to the Dillon and Winningham tunnels, ore was shipped from an older shaft at a profit before the railroad was built.

1952: Verde Valley Receives Publicity, June.
Simply by default Cottonwood became the most important city in the Upper Verde. Cottonwood was built by individual enterprise on a sandy flat between the mountains and the fertile strip of farmland along the Verde River.

1890: CAMP VERDE; Charles Morris Died of Hydrophobia on June 19.
Charles Morris was bitten by a rabid skunk at what became known as Skunk Flat near the mouth of Fossil Creek. His widow, Hettie (Davidson) Morris married Lewis Turner in 1891.

Cinnabar is located on the Verde River several miles below Squaw Peak. There are several holes along the vein excavated, evidently by Indians who used the ore.

The confiscated machinery was a small but complete still and the product was grape brandy.

About 127 families were made homeless and 2 men died as the result of the fire.

1903: FOSSIL CREEK; Mrs. Iva Tutt, Electrician, June.
Mrs. Iva E. Tutt is vice-president and general manager in charge of building 2 power plants at Fossil Creek to provide electricity to the mining industry.

Plans to use steam shovels in the vicinity of the old smelter site are under construction. The sinking of an interior 3-compartment shaft is planned.

1909: JEROME; Electric Power from Fossil Creek, June.
The Arizona Power plant at Fossil Creek began supplying electric power to the United Verde Copper Company on June 18. G. W. Hull of the Cleopatra company will also convert to electric power. J. J. Fisher of the Little Daisy group is investigating the use of electric power.

The Venture Hill Mining Company was organized in 1900. It is located about 1 mile from Jerome. The group is made up of 6 claims with an option on 3 others.
