Obituary: Sarah Marie Roderick 2004 - 2013
Sarah Marie Roderick
Sarah Marie Roderick

Sarah Marie Roderick, 8, of Cottonwood, passed from this world and went to live with her Jesus on April 22, 2013.

Sarah was born on August 8, 2004. She had many interests and talents including science, art, reading, piano, AWANA, American Girls, and soccer. She really liked candy a lot too.

Sarah showed love to critters of all types and was compassionate, tender, and kind to others. She was her Mom’s “little shadow” around the house during the day learning how to cook, put on make-up, helping out with chores, or simply being there. She volunteered time to the elderly; she had a special way of knowing just what to do and say to make them feel comfortable and loved.

From a very early age, it was obvious Sarah was unique in the way she perceived and experienced the world around her. Her waters ran deep. She was intuitive about the needs of others and took interest in meeting them. She was impressed by the likes of Gladys Aylward and Hudson Taylor and had aspirations of being a medical missionary. She was determined to make her life count.

Those Sarah left behind include her mother and father, Scott and Noreen Roderick, three siblings Hannah, Rachel, and Jamin; grandmother Mary Ellen Hernandez of Chattanooga; grandfather Robert Wolter of Sun City; many other relatives including aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of the family; her best friend Kalei aka “trouble” and hamster “Nibblet” of Russia.

Her family, friends, and community will celebrate her life on Monday, April 29th, 10:30am in the Verde Baptist Church worship center, 102 S. Willard Street. Contributions in her name can be made at any Bank of America.

An online guestbook is available to sign at www.westcottfuneralhome.com

No loss is harder to endure than the loss of a child .....It is never planned for or expected. Sarah, God be with you and keep you in his light always....Without the belief and love of Jesus, our savior and our Heavenly Father....there is no way to get thru this tragic loss....Believe in him and he will give you strength. Keep in mind and know that you and your family are being prayed for and above all we pray for the precious soul of little Sarah...We know, we have gone thru it twice and we know too that the only way to cope is to Believe...God Bless you and yours in your sorrow and remember the wonderful memories of your little girl...Not knowing Sarah, but reading her Obituary tells so much about the kind, giving and loving child that she was here and what a perfect angel she will be in her heavenly home...
Vaya con Dios....(Go with God)

I don't get the paper anymore, so I didn't see this in print. This may be better though, because I can put my thoughts here, and maybe Scott & Noreen will see this.
My heart breaks for you, even now. Perhaps even more now because I imagine the cards and calls are slowing due to time. But I feel certain your pain is not easing much. I cannot begin to understand the pain you must be feeling. I know you both have a lot of faith in God, as did Sarah. That is just right. Because when you look around and see life continuing on for others, and you scream in your head "Don't you people know that the world stopped when Sarah died?" It is God who will answer. He will hold you and the family in the warm palm of his hand. Hold on to that. Also, hold onto the fact that your little girl is now getting hugs and love, comfort and everything she will ever need from Jesus Christ. Because she already knew Him, she will feel at home.
Of course, hold onto each other. Always remember that by holding onto each other, and Jesus, you will always have someone who knows just how you feel.
And finally, the angels are always near to those who are grieving, to whisper to them that their loved ones are safe in the hand of God.
You are all in our prayers, daily.
Your brother and sister in Christ.
"Doc" & Norma

I coached Sarah last Fall in AYSO soccer and from the moment she stepped on the field, I knew I was going to enjoy having her on my team. I did not need an assistant coach, because I had Sarah! She was a leader, and a great soccer player. Her teammates loved her and her sportsmanship and kindness to others showed every time she played. Thank you Sarah and the Roderick Family for such an enjoyable experience in my life! We will miss you Sarah but your spirit will be felt every time I set foot on a soccer field.

Like others posting here, when I read about your little angel's passing my heart just shattered for all of you, and for Sarah's dear friends... While I know that nothing but leaning upon the Divine can even begin to ease your grief, I don't think I'd be mistaken in saying that hundreds if not thousands of us stand with you, speechless with tears and holding your hands...

May God's Infinite Love enfold and uplift you within the coming days, and months, and years ahead...

I just want to let you know (whoever wrote this) I cried as I read about this girl. I just want to let you know, I appreciate the loving way the writer told of the young girl's many wonderful qualities. Thank you Lynn Lunt
