Red Rock Quilters plan benefit for Camp Soaring Eagle kids

As part of the ongoing Sedona Public Library in the Village (SPL-V) Rotating Artist Series, the Red Rock Quilters of Sedona are teaming up with Camp Soaring Eagle (CSE) for this holiday season. The quilters will be displaying some of the quilts they donate to Camp Soaring Eagle kids at the village location in Tequa Plaza beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

An artists' reception will be held at the village library on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 5-7 p.m. Quilters in attendance will be happy to share their techniques and inspiration for each quilt with you. At 6 p.m. Camp Soaring Eagle will present a short talk about their medically based camping programs and ways in which you may participate in their work.

Camp Soaring Eagle, where children with serious illnesses discover the healing power of laughter, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides medically based camping programs to children ages 6-16 suffering with serious illnesses. Camp is completely free of charge to the campers and their families and funded through charitable contributions. All funds raised will be directed towards camps and programs because 100 percent of CSE's administrative costs are underwritten by CSE's Board of Directors.

Over the past several years, the Red Rock Quilters have been creating and donating quilts to CSE Kids twice a year during Family Weekend Retreats at the Briar Patch Inn in Oak Creek Canyon. On display will be 12 quilts to be donated to kids in late January 2014. There will be a $1 raffle to raise operating funds for SPL-V and CSE. With the winning ticket to be chosen on Jan. 11, 2014, the winner will receive the quilt of his/her choice.
