Letter: Editing for effect

Editor:

In the 9/21/2012, Verde Independent Letter to the Editor Mr. Stack writes about Romney’s insulting statement. I doubt he knew that there may be a lawsuit against the character that recorded, altered and distributed that tape. In a few states simply recording without permission is unlawful; but my understanding of what is going on here has little or nothing to do with that; it is in the “editing and distribution” that the problem arises.

If you record someone and do some creative editing, you can make it sound as though the individual said things that are not what was said; this editing can be done by cutting and splicing or in some cases just by omitting (cutting out) part of what was said. From what I’ve heard there were two minutes erased from Romney’s speech.

I recall a political race that the outcome appeared to have been determined by an intentional misrepresentation of fact; the race was close and by chance I heard the speech on the radio. In his speech the candidate was talking about Social Security and the distorted way the government was handling the funds that were supposed to be going into a locked box (one of two solemn promises made in order to get the scheme started, the other was that “SSAN (Social Security Account Number) cannot and will not ever be used for Identification”! LOL) with an account for each individuals SSAN and instead they had started putting the money into the General Fund. The candidate stated: (from memory so may not be verbatim) “If the Social Security cannot be made to function the way it was intended to function then the Social Security System should be Abolished.” The next morning the primary headline in almost every major newspaper across the country read “Goldwater said: Social Security should be Abolished”; and that is a selective distortion of what was said and is a classic example of editing for effect.

Romney could improve on his communication skills, but no matter what he does the news (?) media are going to try to destroy him and laud the intentional destruction of this Nation by the Socialists as being “Patriotic.”

Go ahead mr bond and vote for your embarrassment of a president, stand on commie corner with your signs looking foolish! , Secondly I would much rather have a Mormon in the White House than a man who supports the muslim faith. Say what you will about Mormons but I've never seen a Mormon killing women, strapping on vests armed with explosives all in the name of Islam then tell the world they are a peace loving religion. Ever heard of "Taqiyya" There are two forms of lying as stated in the qur'an to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman. These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause of Islam - by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them. Maybe this is why obummer supports Islam? Now that is a MORON!

promises to not say a single word about govt. or its policy and their results... then fine i guess don't vote... but if you plan on having any sort of opinion in the next 4 years then you better make a choice and make a vote... 3rd party whatever... but vote! as i have seen written several times... if 99% of us actually voted..then the 1% would not control everything.

both options are so bad... is such a bad excuse ... don't like it then do something about it! VOTE! or spend the next 4 years crying like a baby and wishing you had!

First off welfare Isn't an entitlement. Entitlements are Earned! Secondly, Disabled veterans earned every penny they collect for protecting America, hardworking people who paid into social security deserve every dollar they get and are entitled to it. The 47% I refer to are the able bodied scumbags working the system because there to lazy and stupid to get and hold on to a job and believe our government owes them. That’s all I was saying!

Worst election choice ever. Neither believes in anything besides the almighty dollar. Neither stands for any moral integrity. Pray to an entity somewhere that we can survive four more years of total ineptitude regardless of who wins. They both are the north end of a south bound horse and only looking out for their bank accounts and PAC supporters.

Politics in this country has become disgusting since Carter, revolting since Gore lost. Vote this year? Hell no!!!!!

Okay, here is the problem with the 47% and how you are interpreting that. The 47% includes everybody on an entitlement programs. That includes Medicare, Social Security and VA benefits. I don't know about you, but I have paid a ton of money into Social Security with the promise that I would get something out of it. And our veterans have risked their lives in defense of our country. Are you saying those folks aren't deserving of the money or the risk of their lives they have laid out for their country?
This is not just the folks on welfare. This is ALL entitlement programs.

@ [anonymous] re: mr. bond:

speaking of "effect" and the ramifications of the 2012 election upon america if mr. flip flop wins election to office consider the following:

as difficult as it is to comprehend, imagine what the fanatic, neoconservative, right wing gop would be saying about mitt romney if he were running for office as a democrat.

what are those things attributable to mitt romney that the neocons would be using to attack him as a democratic candidate?

well, we could begin with the fact that he is “mormon”.

that singular fact would, in and of itself, be sufficient justification not to vote for mitt romney. there would not be any need for any other thing to justify in the minds of neoconservatives voting against mitt romney other than the fact that he belongs to a “religious cult” not accepted within the confines of the christian fundamentalist religious fanaticism as being genuinely “christian”.

it is not hard to imagine what the neoconservatives would be saying about mitt romney based solely upon his “mormonism”.

not only would he be attacked for his “cultism” but for his support for “polygamy”, and they would even be playing the “race card” against him given the egregious racist history of the mormon church.

however, what else would the gop neocons be doing to destroy his candidacy? most certainly, they would attack him for his “outsourcing of american jobs” to china and his egregious wealth, too.

this, of course, would be complete hypocrisy on the part of the gop but it would not stop them from attacking him for engaging in business practices detrimental to americaif he were the democratic candidate.

see, folks, the problem with neocons is they have no integrity. they are completely, utterly lacking in a moral core. they have an ideological devotion to greed [get rich eviscerating everything democratic] and nothing else.

so, how can we account for their support mitt romney as “their” candidate when in fact the base of the gop finds him unacceptable as the standard-bearer for the gop?

well, it comes down to the core base of the gop. the core of the gop is essentially elitist, racist, sexist, and religiously fanatic. what is occurring is an interesting dynamic within the core of the gop. the elitist are completely happy with mitt romney. the racist are not happy with him, but they would vote for any white candidate no matter what bases solely upon the color of his skin. that is the tragedy of racism. it renders those afflicted with the disease of racism blind to everything other than the color of the candidate’s skin.

besides, they have no place else to go. they no longer have a home in the democratic party and there are simply not enough of them to form their own, separate political party [tea party] that is able to garner a majority of votes to implement their racist ideology.

thus, we have the tea party embracing the gop, and the gop being corrupted by the tea party, because without each other neither represents a majority of the american electorate.

quite frankly, even when combined together into one entity, the gop/tea party do not represent a majority of the electorate.

the one thing that the elitist and racist do agree on is their sexism. they are perfectly comfortable with denigrating females and relegating them to a subservient position in society. they have no difficulty interfering with every aspect of a woman’s life, including her reproductive processes, and they deem it fit and proper for women are treated as inferiors.

that brings us to the religious fanaticism in the gop. this is a complex and complicated issue. the racism endemic to the gop is so irrevocably intertwined with the religious fanaticism that it is virtually impossible to separate the two.

the hypocrisy of the merger of religious fanaticism and racism within the gop is not only self-evident but ironic, too. the merger of racism and religious fanaticism dates back to the era of slavery in america and predates the modern gop.

an historical discussion of these to seemingly disparate and yet merged ideations would require several volumes and has been addressed by historians in complete books.

the elitists are perfectly comfortable embracing whomever, and whatever is required to further their goals. those goals were set forth by none other than the iconic leader of the reagan revolution, [that bears his name].

the unstated goal of the reagan revolution was the complete conversion of america from a constitutional democracy into a corporate [fascist] state that servers the interests of the wealthy elite and finds expression as the military industrial complex [mic], warned of in 1959 by none other than gop president and military icon, dwight d. eisenhower [arguably the last genuinely “conservative” gop president in modern american political history.

this explains the nomination and candidacy of mitt romney. he is the collective manifestation of the hypocrisy born from the combination of elitism, racism, sexism, and religious fanaticism within the gop.

mitt romney is the embodiment of that hypocrisy. calling him a “flip flopper” is being overly generous and far too kind, too.

ultimately, it is the neo-conservative leadership of the gop [that hijacked the gop beginning in 1968 during the presidency of gop president richard m. nixon] that selected mitt romney as the gop candidate.

the elitist are very comfortable with one of their own being a candidate for potus. after all, he is “one of their own”, a charter member of the wealthy elite and someone with whom they can immediately relate.

the neocons leaders in the gop fully realized that mitt romney would be unacceptable to the core base of their party. frankly, they did not care. they know that the racists, sexists and religious fanatics are “hoist of their own petard” metaphorically speaking and have nowhere else to go.

furthermore, the elitist control the purse. they and they alone are in control of the financial structure of the gop and they have purchased the loyalty of those who remain in the gop, just like they have purchased the loyalty of politicians in both political parties, [who have prostituted themselves upon the corporate alter of the profit motive].

therefore, it should not be surprising to discover that the party loyalists hold their nose and vote [against their own best interest] for mitt romney. it is understandable given the corruption driven by greed that is endemic within the political process in america.

Mr. Bond, you said: (hmmm, I wonder where I read this before?) Being LIBERAL I love to share. Being LIBERAL and HONEST, I put MY name on my posts. WHO CARES! For all I know it's like Obama saying he will cut the deficit in his first term, get my drift? Secondly, Romney is correct about the 47%. The able bodied working the system for “Entitlements” won’t bite the hand that feeds them. If they worked as hard at a job or looking for one as they do collecting tax payers’ dollars things could be different. I’ve lived in big cities and have seen the 47%ers collecting there deserved hard earned tax payers’ dollars feeding large families with no fathers telling me that’s their job. Great role model for the kids isn’t it? Oh, I’m going to be just like my Mom when I grow up, unmarried with 8 fatherless kids living in roach and rat infested projects with no job. So, If you want to share dig down deep in your pockets but I’ll be damned if I’m going to! I want my vote to help change it and Obama isn’t the one to “Change” anything.

I listened to the debate and it confirmed something I have suspected about Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney sizes up his audience and then tells them anything they want to hear.
When he's at a luncheon with a bunch of millionaire businessmen, he slams the 47% as a bunch of slackards who will never take responsibility for themselves.
Wednesday night, knowing he has to win over the undecided, moderate vote, all of the sudden he kind of likes some of Obamacare. He'll keep the pre-existing condition part, and the part about extended health care for children up to 26. After all, Obama care was pretty much copied from what he did in Massachusetts. And Dodd-Frank actually has some good provisions in it too... Run to the middle!
Really, what will you get if you vote for Mitt Romney? Will he be a tea-party darling? Kill all entitlements, repeal Bacon-Davis, make all abortions illegal. Or will you get the rather moderate governor of Massachusetts who was quite the opposite? Who knows.

Hey!

Being LIBERAL I love to share. Being LIBERAL and HONEST, I put MY name on my posts and give attribution whenever possible.

So, here goes. From an anonymous [GOP/NEOCONS will love this] poster on the web who used the name MONEYMAN.

Enjoy. It is not only hilarious BUT true, too.
------------------------------------
[sung to the tune Candy Man] [In honor of Mitt Romney]

Who can lie about a tax rise
His logic all askew
As if we aren’t all wise
that he asking us to believe his secret plans are true?

The RMoneyman
The RMoneyman can
The RMoneyman can cause he flips before he flops before he flips again.

Who can Swiss account his riches
Hide them so no one knows
He's evading disclosing taxes
Except when he wants to make a political show?

The RMoneyman
The RMoneyman can
The RMoneyman can cause he flips before he flops before he flips again.

The RMoneyman takes
Then every lie he makes
Lines up with all our wishes
Talk about your bald-faced pitches
Even as he plans he switches

Who can take a bright tomorrow
Make it sound a scheme
Change opinions without sorrow
Until we want to scream?

The RMoneyman
The RMoneyman can
Cause in RMoneyman's world little people don't count even though we should.
