Match of the Week

Do you remember that person from your childhood who made an impact on you? Maybe it was a friend of your family, a teacher or an uncle who went the extra mile for you. At Big Brothers Big Sisters there are many children right here in the Verde Valley and Sedona waiting for a "Big."

Meet Little Sister Kaitlynn and Big Sister Ruth

There is a reason for those happy smiles. Kaitlynn and Ruth always have fun when they are together. Whether it is making clay Easter ornaments, baking cookies or riding bikes.

Kaitlynn feels that Ruth is the best Big Sister. One of her favorite things to do is spend time at Ruth's house. Ruth has a trampoline that is just the right size for Kaitlynn, her closet is full of cool shoes she lets Kaitlynn try on, and she has a cute puppy to walk around the neighborhood. When you visit Ruth's house, you will see she has on display some of the projects on which they have worked. Kaitlynn mom is so thankful that her daughter has such a kind and caring Big Sister. She knows that when Kaitlynn is with Ruth , she is safe and respected for who she is as a person.

Ruth has also enjoyed sharing with Kaitlynn her interests and skills. Having grown up ice skating, she took Kaitlynn up to the ice skating rink in Flagstaff. They often cook together. Kaitlynn says Ruth cooks good food and she enjoys helping with all the "stuff" it takes to cook.

Kaitlynn and Ruth have a strong friendship that will continue to grow and bring joy to both.

Becoming a Big Sister or Big Brother is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. Of the kids waiting for a Big right now, there's one wanting to go on a hike, ride bikes, bake cookies or just hang out with someone like you. Some have been waiting for almost a whole year!
