'Tommy Rocks' music store opens July 1 in Jerome
JEROME - You have probably heard of "Tommy Rocks" already: as a Tempe musician, Tommy Anderson has played extensively throughout Arizona, as a solo performer, with his Beatles bands "Ringo McLennonSon" and "The Beatless," and with his band " OvO " featuring guitar legend Joe Berger from NYC. He has since moved to Cottonwood, and performs regularly in Prescott, Scottsdale, Phoenix and Tempe, as well as at The Spirit Room in Jerome and My Dobro in Cottonwood.

What's Happening: 6-25-14
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Denny's Restaurant in Camp Verde is hosting a benefit car wash to raise money for Cookies for Kids Cancer, which is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity. Founded in California, the organization's focus is to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Cancer claims the lives of more children annually than any other disease, and 25 percent of all children diagnosed with pediatric cancer don't win the battle.

What a Laugh! Jerome cartoonist gives back to community
JEROME - A teddy bear comes between two fuzzy enemies in Michael Gallagher's pro-bono cartoon used to promote the Jerome Humane Society's annual Flea Market last month.

Gallagher and his wife, Candace, "stumbled" across Jerome about 10 years ago while on a road trip from the Grand Canyon, to Sedona, then through Cottonwood to the mile-high Ghost Town.

"It's a story you've heard from almost everyone - they saw it one time and it kind of never left them," he said.

Gus gets summer vacation started early at AppleWood
COTTONWOOD -- It's been an extremely extended stay at AppleWood Kennels for Gus, a spindly-legged black Doberman mix whose owners have been out of touch for more than a month.

Kennel owner Bruce Gregory said Gus was dropped off by one of the owners' sisters on the last day of March, and was scheduled for pick up two weeks later.
